In Paris, on April 15, 1874, the first exhibition of the “Société anonyme des peintres, sculpteurs, graveurs, etc.” opened at 35 boulevard des Capucines, in the former studio of one of the most
famous photographers of the time, Nadar.
Some thirty artists and 200 works were exhibited alongside the official Salon in what was to become the first Impressionist exhibition.
Among these thirty artists, seven made their mark, making this 1874 exhibition an important milestone in the history of art that would lead to modern art.
In our lecture, we'll be exploring how and under what circumstances these artists - the future Impressionists, born between 1839 and 1841, Cézanne, Sisley, Monet, Renoir, Bazille, Morisot,
Pissarro in 1830 and Degas in 1834 - witnessed and instigated the tremendous transformations in the art world of the 19th century.
