PARIS 1874 - INVENTING IMPRESSIONISM
The 150 anniversary of the first impressionist exhibition
On April 15, 1874, the "Monet gang" exhibited their works in the former studio of photographer Nadar, 35 boulevard des Capucines in Paris.
The bourgeois press shunned these dissidents, with only around 3,500 visitors, whereas the official Salon counted almost 10,000 visitors a day...
Yet this exhibition marked the beginning of a new artistic adventure, a turning point towards modern art.
This year we celebrate its 150th anniversary
But what is Impressionism?
